Background
Martin Gibbons has been associated with independent retailers since starting leaving school in 1963. After a sabbatical in music he returned to the electrical trade 3 years later as a sales representative calling on a mix of retailers and wholesalers in the South of England. On 20 April 1970, married with his first child on the way he set up his own business selling lamps and a few other items including spares and often under cutting on branded spares and buying in end of lines and other clearance lines. Within a few months Martin had also added electrical accessories to his portfolio and by 1972 he had several lock up garages which were used as a warehouse/office. In 1973, Jegs was a 2000 sq ft warehouse in Brook Close, Rochford, Essex and in 1976 the company moved to larger premises in Ely Road, Southend-on-Sea, Essex. By 1988, Jegs was trading at its current address in progress Road, Leigh-on-Sea where it has continued to grow from strength to strength into a business with a turnover of over £8million. 

Range
The independent electrical retailer, the base from which Jegs has grown, is still the core of our customers. We source from the UK, Italy, France, Germany and the Far East and ensure we are have the best quality products and pricing from popular branded appliances e.g., Philips, Kenwood to the popular Jegs pre-pack range. Martin is very passionate about buying. He says " There is the price, the best price and the Jegs price when it comes to buying products. And to squeeze the little bit extra from our suppliers we pay most of them in 7 days." Jegs is unique as our distribution is almost entirely to independent retailers. Our customers use Jegs as they are placed in a better position to compete with the big multiples on price at good margins and know they can get the product range and customer service from Jegs. A real one stop shopping experience.
